Ijiko was born in a tiny village, so small that even the samurai occasionally helped out at harvest. She was instructed not at a dojo, but privately, by a retired Shinjo sensei who lived in the valley. She's a natural with horses, and a small village life with the peasant's children has turned out a girl as rough and tumble as them. She's related to the famous Moto Chai distantly, and swears to herself that it's his voice she hears in the wind sometimes. Her great-grandfather won the Emperor's Great Hunt many years ago, and his distinctive skill with a bow has been passed down to Iji. Several generations back, there were rumors of an affair with a Scorpion. Though it's been hushed up, there's occasionally whispers that Iji's family has cousins amongst the Soshi and Bayushi families.
Iji is slight, but carries her naginata with practiced ease. Her hair is shorn close to her head, save a long braid woven through with purple ribbons. She's pretty, and is totally unaware of that fact.
On a darker note: someone has it in for Iji and her family, and Iji doesn't know... yet.
